Silver City Street Outreach offers peer-led harm reduction and crisis support, delivering dignity and essential resources to unhoused individuals in rural Grant County.
Empowering Unhoused Voices in Grant County
Empowerment is at the heart of Silver City Street Outreach’s mission. We were founded in response to clear and persistent gaps in traditional service systems—gaps that left many of our community members without access to basic needs, harm reduction resources, or compassionate support. From the beginning, our work has been rooted in a simple but powerful principle: the people most impacted by housing instability, substance use, and systemic barriers must be included in shaping the solutions. What started as grassroots, peer-led outreach has grown into a trusted community presence that delivers life-saving services directly where they are needed most.
Our mission is to provide low-barrier, trauma-informed, and justice-centered support through street outreach, harm reduction, and peer advocacy. We operate with a “meet people where they are” approach, both physically and philosophically, ensuring that services are accessible regardless of someone’s circumstances, readiness for change, or ability to navigate complex systems. This includes distributing harm reduction supplies, responding to crises in real time, and operating a drop-in space that offers connection, basic resources, and pathways to housing, healthcare, and recovery-oriented supports. Everything we do is grounded in public health best practices and shaped by lived experience.
Our values are centered on dignity, autonomy, and community leadership. We believe that every person deserves respect and access to care without judgment or coercion. We prioritize building trust through consistent, relationship-based engagement and work to reduce harm while supporting long-term stability on each individual’s terms. Collaboration is also key to our approach—we partner with local organizations, volunteers, and community members while maintaining the flexibility and independence needed to respond quickly to emerging needs. By uplifting unhoused voices and embedding them into our programs and advocacy efforts, we are building a model of care that is not only effective, but sustainable and rooted in equity.
Looking ahead, our vision is to build a Grant County where no one is left behind and where care is accessible, responsive, and grounded in dignity. We aim to expand street outreach, strengthen our crisis response, and grow our drop-in center as a trusted community hub, while deepening peer leadership and elevating lived experience in all aspects of our work. By collaborating with local partners and prioritizing public health, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care, we seek to create a more coordinated and inclusive system of support. Long-term success for Silver City Street Outreach is measured not just by services delivered, but by the lasting impact we make in reducing barriers, strengthening trust, and fostering a more compassionate community.
